The Best Bits

The boutique hotel had a gorgeous classic Californian/rustic Mexican fusion feel, complete with exquisite design, decor and artwork in keeping with its theme.

  • The staff were absolutely sensational, going out of their way to make our stay a delight.  From organizing last minute tours for us when we shuffled out of bed late in the morning to calling us a cab to get to Disneyland, nothing was ever too much effort.  They were always glad and eager to help.  Every night they would greet us with cheery smiles when we would traipse in, exhausted and happy from a day of exploring.  They would always inquire about our day and were full of helpful tips on how to maximize our experiences.

  • Our room was gorgeous!  It was private, cosy and yet HUGE with separate spaces to chill out in at the end of a big day.  Everything was clean, beautifully decorated and impeccably maintained.  We had the loveliest private courtyard, complete with its own fountain, where we could chill out and swap pictures we’d taken that day, which was quiet and serene.  Our bathroom had a separate powder room so Greg could shower while I put on my makeup in the morning sans mirror fog.  There was a well appointed, fully self-contained kitchen.  This was extra handy because there’s a supermarket across the street, so if we’d wanted to we could have cooked our own meals.

  • Incredible value for money.  You’d be paying well over $300 AUD for something like this on the Gold Coast, but rooms are exceptional value here with rooms from $99 AUD per night.  It’s a great choice for visiting Disneyland and Southern California on a budget.

The Nitty Gritty

Accommodation type: Boutique 82-room inn located in Anaheim, Orange County, California, about 10 minutes’ drive away from the hustle and bustle of the Disneyland precinct.

Feel: Think classic Californian/rustic Mexican infusion villa, with a relaxed, tranquil, laid back vibe.  Each room features either a balcony or a romantic private courtyard complete with its own fountain.  One of Hotel Pepper Tree’s Australian owners is an architect by trade.  His eye for design is showcased by the attention to detail in the hotel’s gorgeous design features and elements, including the colour scheme, furnishings, architecture and landscape.  The furniture, paintings and ironwork have all been handmade and handpicked in Guadalajara.

Location: Nestled in the heart of Anaheim, located in Orange County, California.  It’s conveniently close to Disneyland (about 10 minutes’ drive away) without the “busyness” of the Disneyland precinct.  We loved this because it allowed for more interaction with locals and more opportunities to explore the less traveled paths of Anaheim’s surrounds.

Rooms: 82

Pool/gym? The hotel features a pool and a poolside barbecue area for guests.

Restaurant: Yes!  They have a signature restaurant serving authentic – and we mean, really authentic Mexican seafood cuisine, Mariscos el Perihuete.  The food is absolutely delicious and fantastic value.  A continental breakfast at this restaurant is included in the daily room rate.

Bar: Mariscos el Perihuete makes delicious cocktails. I totally recommend the margaritas!

Self Contained? Rooms are fully self contained with well appointed kitchens so you can save even more money by eating in.  Vallarta Supermarket is conveniently located right across the street.

How did we sleep? The King sized bed was furnished with a pillow top mattress, firm pillows and feather bedding.  It was perfect to fall into at the end of a long day on our feet exploring Disneyland.  The hotel was not located in a noisy area and the rooms were quiet and private.  We weren’t disturbed through the night or in the morning at all.  Plus the room had blackout blinds so that gorgeous yellow California sun didn’t wake us up too early and we could enjoy a honeymoon sleep in (if we’d wanted to, I was too excited about Disneyland to sleep in.  Greg probably wanted to).

Air Conditioning/Heating? Yes.

Wi-Fi? Yes.

TV?  Yes.  Each bedroom has a flat screen TV with loads of channels.

Pet friendly?  Yes.

Smoke free?  Yes.

Parking?  Yes.

Elevator?  Yes.

Price Range: Approachable, budget to mid-level price range for a very comfortable stay.

Exploring the Area

Dining: With a variety of delicious menu options to suit every taste, a jovial and bustling atmosphere and fantastic value for money, the hotel’s onsite restaurant, Mariscos El Perihuete is a fantastic option for dinner.  For a dinner with a show, the iconic Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, Buena Park, is 6 minutes away.

Theme Parks: Set in a perfect location halfway between two of Anaheim’s most iconic theme parks, Hotel Pepper Tree is 5 minutes away from Knotts Berry Farm and 9 minutes away from Disneyland Resort.

Sightseeing: A chance detour after falling asleep on a bus (read details here) had us randomly waking up in beautiful Seal Beach, just 24 minutes away from Hotel Pepper Tree.  Seal Beach’s Main Street combines hometown USA charm with a relaxed urban beachside vibe, packed with eateries to stuff yourself silly at and gorgeous shops to explore.  Stroll along the picturesque pier, the second longest in California and soak up the sunshine for an “off the beaten path” Californian beach experience.

The Practical Bits

Check-In Time: 3 pm.  We didn’t realise this before we arrived, but the lovely attendants stored our bags for us so we could explore the area unencumbered… which is the beginning of the story of how we fell asleep on a random bus and found one of my favourite places ever.

Check Out Time: A very convenient 11 am, allowing for a nice sleep in and a cruisy breakfast on your last morning.

Early Check-In /Late Checkout? Yes.  However, it is subject to availability and must be arranged 24+ hours in advance, with fees possibly applying.

Room Rate: Room rates are from $99 AUD (book here) and include continental breakfast daily, free Wi-Fi, fully self-contained kitchen, daily housekeeping and more.

With its gorgeous Californian/Mexican fusion style and charm, its clean, beautifully furnished and comprehensively appointed rooms, its fantastic value for money, convenient location and exceptional customer service with a smile, Hotel Pepper Tree is the best kept accommodation secret in Anaheim.  We highly recommend it for anyone and especially couples doing a romantic Disneyland honeymoon on a budget.  We absolutely loved our time there and would go back in a heartbeat.  Thanks, Hotel Pepper Tree for being such a special part of our honeymoon!
