76 Songs You Need to Add to Your Las Vegas Playlist

Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud.
— Hunter S Thompson

As the desert fell away behind us and our hire car drove toward the emerging lights of Vegas beneath a setting sun, Guns ‘n’ Roses’ Paradise City began to blast from our car stereo and now when I hear that song I can think of nothing else.  Isn’t it funny how the music you listen to at key moments in your life become entrenched in your subconscious, bringing you crashing back to that moment again the second you hear it again?  It becomes part of the soundtrack of your life.  To that end, curating the playlist for an epic Las Vegas road trip is something to be taken somewhat seriously and perhaps not one of those things to be settled upon as an afterthought.

I will leave packing for a trip to the last minute, and procrastinate for days about publishing a blog post: but I will spend hours collating the perfect playlist to soundtrack a road trip or a social gathering.  To me, its contribution to the experience is too key to be left out.  But what to add?  It depends on your taste: for a road trip, I like a true “mix” – from Elvis and Sinatra to soft 70s rock to 00s dance, and borrowing from a range of soundtracks from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to The Hangover.  With 79 tracks across a mix of tastes to choose from, there’s bound to be enough meat in this list to round out your own epic Vegas road trip soundtrack.

I couldn’t think of a better fitting song than Paradise City to be pounding through our speakers as The Luxor and Excalibur rose into our view from the desert like a great and spectacular mirage.  A place that is often dubbed ‘Disneyland for adults’, Vegas is a surreal experience that is somewhat of a legendary myth even after you’ve experienced it for yourself: and the road trip in the lead up to it is well deserving of a soundtrack to match.
